Bulk Edit Support for Custom Fields in Lists

Summary
Users need the ability to bulk edit custom field values for a selected group of contacts within a List. Currently, bulk editing only allows adding/removing contacts from predefined Lists — but custom fields cannot be bulk modified, which limits workflow efficiency and causes significant repetitive work.
Current Behavior
When selecting multiple contacts and choosing Edit Lists, the modal that appears includes:
* Add to
* Remove from
* A static selector for Lists
However, the Custom Field Choices tab (highlighted in the screenshot) is not functional — users cannot select or update custom fields in bulk.
This forces users to edit each contact individually, which is highly inefficient for campaigns, tagging, lead scoring, pipeline stages, and broadcast segmentation.
Requested Enhancement
Enable bulk editing of custom field values directly from the List view.
Specifically, users should be able to:
- Select multiple contacts
- Click Edit
- Access a tab called Custom Fields
- Apply bulk updates to any custom field, such as:
* Dropdown fields
* Text fields
* Status fields
* Multi-select fields
- Save changes and apply the update across all selected contacts instantly
Why This Feature Is Needed (User Impact)
Without bulk editing for custom fields, users face the following pain points:
* High manual workload: Editing each contact individually is slow and inefficient
* Inconsistent data: Hard to maintain clean, accurate segmentation
* Campaign delays: Users cannot quickly retag or reclassify contacts after broadcasts
* Reduced adoption: Users who rely heavily on segmentation (sales, marketing, SDR teams) are blocked from using advanced workflows
This enhancement would save significant time and greatly improve campaign preparation, lead management, and reporting.
Value / Business Impact
* Faster workflow → more broadcasts, more segmentation, more platform usage
* Higher customer satisfaction due to reduced manual labor
* Enables more sophisticated automation and follow-up sequences
* Encourages deeper use of custom fields, improving data quality
Example Use Cases
* Tagging all “No Answer” cold leads as “Delivered”
* Updating hundreds of contacts after a broadcast to apply new workflow statuses
* Reclassifying leads by region, industry, deal stage, or product interest
* Quickly marking all delivered messages with a custom flag

Hiya Low Reptile, thanks for this post! I have a few more questions for you:
- What specific types of custom fields are most critical for your workflows?
- How frequently do you need to perform bulk edits on custom fields?
- Are there any specific scenarios where bulk editing custom fields would significantly impact your operations?

Hi Chris Brisson, Thanks for the follow-up — happy to clarify. Here are the details you requested:
1. Most critical custom fields in my workflow:
• Company Name
• Lead Type
• CM
• Plan/Product
• Broadcast Status
• BG Deal?
• Date Deal Closed
• OB Client
• EC Deal?
These fields determine where each contact sits in my sales pipeline and what offers or messaging they should receive.
2. Frequency of bulk edits:
I need to bulk-edit custom fields
after every broadcast
so I can update the “Broadcast Status” field for all recipients at once. Doing this individually is extremely time-consuming.3. Scenarios where bulk editing would significantly impact operations:
I manage hundreds of active clients with different products, upgrade paths, and eligibility for certain promotions. I also manage multiple lead pipelines. Bulk editing is essential to keep these segments clean and accurate.
For example:
• OB Client (Onboard Client) shows me who is currently an active paying customer.
• Plan/Product tells me which plan or feature set they’re on, so I avoid offering something they already have.
• BG Deal? tells me whether they are a current Buyer’s Guide advertiser, which determines if they should or should not receive a BG-related broadcast.
• EC Deal? indicates whether they are an Equipment Classifieds magazine advertiser, so I know if an EC promotion is appropriate.
• Broadcast Status shows the result of the last broadcast (Voicemail Not Detected, Delivered, No Answer, etc.).
• Which BC? identifies which broadcast campaign they received, allowing me to track performance and avoid duplication.
On a related note, I have another request:
Would it be possible to add a dropdown field type when creating custom fields? This would make tagging and categorizing contacts much more consistent and reduce errors when managing large datasets.
Without bulk editing, there’s a risk of sending the wrong offer to the wrong customer — and it takes a significant amount of time to correct manually.
Bulk editing would dramatically improve organization, segmentation, and accuracy for both client management and outbound campaigns.
Let me know if you need any additional examples or edge cases — happy to provide more detail.
